Sodium bicarbonate is a compound used for the symptomatic treatment of heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach as well as the treatment of metabolic acidosis associated with conditions such as severe renal disease and circulatory insufficiency due to shock.

commonly used in baking and pharmaceutical industries. (c) Sodium hydrogen carbonate acts as an antacid because Sodium hydrogen carbonate neutralises the extra acid which is present in the stomach and relieves indigestion.
The ethanoic acid reacts with the sodium hydrogen carbonate to form carbon dioxide gas and water. The carbon dioxide gas produced rushes away from the solution. This is seen as bubbles.
