Sodium citrate dihydrate is the dihydrate of trisodium citrate. It has a role as an anticoagulant. It contains a sodium citrate. Sodium salts of citric acid that are used as buffers and food preservatives.
Serious side effects of citric acid and sodium citrate include muscle twitching or cramps, swelling or weight gain, weakness, mood changes, rapid and shallow breathing, fast heart rate, restless feeling, black or bloody stools, severe diarrhea, or seizure (convulsions).
Sodium citrate dihydrate (C6H5Na3O7•2H2O) is the sodium salt of citric acid combined with 2 water molecules. It has a sour taste similar to citric acid, and is salty as well. It is often used as a food preservative, and as a flavoring in the food industry. In the pharmaceutical industry it is used to control pH.
