Our ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA has a purity of 99.8 min. and water of 0.15 max., so it cleans circuit boards, contacts and switchgear and dries quickly. We supply it from Barka to Muscat and the rest of Oman. Ask us for a quote.
If you need IPA 99 isopropyl alcohol to clean circuit boards, contacts or switchgear in Muscat, we supply a high purity grade, ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA (part number RXSOL-19-1340-025), from Barka Industrial Area. Its specification gives a purity of 99.8 min. by G.C. and water of 0.15 max., so it cleans and then evaporates without leaving water on your components. Send us the quantity and the delivery site and we will quote.
Why electrical cleaning calls for a 99 grade
Isopropyl alcohol is sold in several strengths. The 70% rubbing alcohol found in pharmacies is about 30% water. That suits disinfection but not electrical work. Water left on a board, terminal or contact can cause tracking, corrosion and short circuits once the equipment is powered again.
A 99 grade contains so little water that the solvent flashes off and leaves the surface dry. On a printed circuit board it dissolves flux residue, light oil and handling marks. On relays, connectors, slip rings and switchgear contacts it lifts dust held in a thin oil film. Our product record describes it as suitable for electronic cleaning uses and as a solvent for acrylic and epoxy resins, ethyl cellulose, natural resins, gums and polyvinyl butyral.
What our IPA specification says
We list the same pure isopropyl alcohol under two part numbers: ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA, RXSOL-19-1340-025, in our electrical cleaner range, and ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL, RXSOL-19-1340-005, in our solvent range. Both have the test results below. Order under the part number used in your purchase order or maintenance manual.

How to clean electrical equipment with IPA
For electrical cleaning, use the pure grade as supplied. A typical method for panels and boards:
- Isolate and lock out the equipment, and let hot components cool before you start.
- Open doors or run extraction so vapour does not build up inside the panel or room.
- Wet a lint-free wipe or a soft brush with IPA and work the residue off. Small parts can be dipped in a covered tray of IPA and brushed.
- Wipe away the loosened dirt with a clean, dry wipe.
- Let every surface dry completely, including under components and inside connectors, before you restore power.
Never apply IPA to live equipment. Its flash point of 11.7 ℃ is far below any working temperature in Muscat, so flammable vapour is present whenever the liquid is open. Its vapour can form an explosive mixture with air, with an explosion limit of 2.0% to 12% (by volume). Keep hot work, grinders, heat guns and sparks away from the cleaning area. The product record also says its vapour can cause slight irritation to the eyes, nose and throat and that it can be absorbed through the skin, so wear chemical resistant gloves and eye protection.
When a blended electrical cleaner fits better
IPA is the right choice for electronics, fine contacts and light residue. For heavier grease on electrical equipment, or where you need a higher flash point, look at our Electrical Cleaner Slow Dry, RXSOL-16-1077-020. It is a non-chlorinated degreasing blend with a flash point of 63°C (Closed Cup). It is described as safe on applied electrical insulation and non-corrosive on painted or varnished metal surfaces. Its compatibility data shows no known effect on metal or plastic, but rubber may swell. It comes in 7/25 Lts packs and must be used in open or sufficiently ventilated areas.
Our guide to using Electrosol electrical cleaner covers how to apply the blended cleaners safely. We also stock RXSOL CLEANER, RXSOL-19-1340-210, listed as a solvent for cleaning electrical parts. Ask us for details if you are comparing options.
Where IPA is used
IPA of this grade suits maintenance cleaning of switchrooms, lift controls, building management panels, telecom racks and laboratory equipment. It is also used during plant shutdowns to clean control cards, instrument terminals and relay contacts, and on engine room electronics and bridge equipment on vessels.
Outside electrical work, our product record lists nitrocellulose lacquers and thinners, adhesives, lithographic printing and general purpose cleaners. For plants in the Sohar industrial area, the same ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA is listed on Sohar Chemical. Buyers in Dhofar can find isopropyl alcohol through Salalah Chemical.
Storage and handling on your site
Store IPA in a shaded, ventilated flammables store, away from direct sun, heat sources and oxidising chemicals. Summer heat in Muscat and the interior raises vapour pressure, so keep drums and cans tightly closed when they are not in use. When you decant from a drum, earth and bond the drum and the receiving container to prevent static discharge.
Under the GHS, isopropyl alcohol is generally classed as a highly flammable liquid and vapour that causes serious eye irritation and may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Label secondary containers and keep them out of confined spaces. Check the quantities you hold against your site's Civil Defence fire safety conditions for flammable liquids.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between IPA 99 and 70% isopropyl alcohol?
A 70% product is roughly 30% water and is meant for disinfection. For electrical and electronic parts, use a 99 grade such as our ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA, which has a purity of 99.8 min. and water of 0.15 max., because it dries without leaving water behind.
Can I use IPA on live electrical panels?
No. Isolate and lock out the equipment first. IPA has a flash point of 11.7 ℃, so its vapour can ignite from a spark or arc. Restore power only after every surface is fully dry.
How long can I keep IPA in stock?
The product may be stored at normal ambient temperatures and has a shelf life of not less than 72 months with correct storage. Keep containers tightly closed in a shaded, ventilated flammables store.
Which part number should I order?
RXSOL-19-1340-025 and RXSOL-19-1340-005 have the same pure isopropyl alcohol specification. Use whichever appears in your purchase order or approved materials list, and tell us if you need the MSDS for your approval file.
