Formamidine Acetate is an organic compound and an amide derivative. Formamidine acetate is soluble in water and hot alcohol and is hygroscopic, incompatible with oxidizing agents, and moisture sensitive in nature. Formamidine acetate is synthesized by triethyl orthoformate and glacial acetic acid and as the temperature decreases a flow of ammonia is introduced into the solution. During this process, a decrease in the internal temperature of the mixture is observed. As temperature decreases vigorous refluxing is observed and formamidine acetate starts to crystallize. These crystals are filtrated and washed thoroughly by ethanol.
Formamidine Acetate finds its applications in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) as an intermediate and is also used as a condensing agent for the reaction in the production of pyridine or imidazole heterocycles. Formamidine Acetate salt shows its major importance in the synthesis of formamidium lead triodide perovskites for perovskites solar cells. Perovskite is a term referring to that chemical structure that is similar to a mineral called perovskite. Moreover, formamidine acetate is also used in formation of formamidium lead bromide nanocrystals that are used as emitters in display applications.
