Scale on the waterside of a condenser or cooler slows heat transfer and raises fuel use. This guide covers how our 1008 descaling liquid removes it, the dosage and method for each job, and how to order it in Muscat.
Scale on the waterside of a condenser or cooler slows heat transfer. Our ScaleX Pro Descaling Liquid (RXSOL-11-1008-002) is the chemical descaling product we supply in Muscat to dissolve it. You mix the 1008 descaling liquid with fresh water at 3 to 20 percent, depending on how heavy the scaling is. Then you circulate it through the unit, rinse, and neutralise. The equipment is cleaned in hours without taking any part of it apart. We have ready stock in Oman and supply against a quote.
Why scale builds up in condensers and coolers
Hard water leaves calcium carbonate and other mineral salts on hot metal. The problem is worse in a cooling tower circuit, because water evaporates and the dissolved salts left behind get more concentrated with every cycle. The deposit settles in condenser tubes, plate heat exchanger channels and engine cooler passages, which is where you need clean metal most.
Scale works as an insulating layer. Your chiller head pressure goes up, your diesel engine runs hotter at the jacket water cooler, and your boiler burns more fuel for the same output. Our product data for boilers shows how large the loss gets:
- 0.5 mm of scale: 2 % increase in fuel consumption
- 1 mm: 4 %
- 2 mm: 6 %
- 4 mm: 10 %
- 8 mm: 20 %
- 16 mm: 40 %
- 30 mm: 80 %
If scale stays in a boiler long enough, it can cause overheating and eventually boiler rupture. Descaling on a regular schedule keeps your equipment in service for longer.
What our 1008 descaling liquid does
The ScaleX Pro Descaling Liquid is a concentrated chemical made to clean mineral scale out of the passages in water-cooled and water-heated equipment. It removes water scale and rust from boilers, diesel engine cooling systems, condensers, evaporators and heat exchangers. It is soft on ferrous metals.
In concentrated form it can dissolve approximately 1.5kg of calcium carbonate scale per gallon. You do not need to heat it during cleaning, and some equipment can be cleaned while it is still running, with very few of your own staff.
The RXSOL-11-1008-025 descaling liquid is an acid-based, low-foaming grade that is safe for stainless steel, glass, ceramic and most metals. Low foam helps when you clean by circulation, because foam traps air in the pump and leaves dry patches inside the tubes.
How to descale a condenser or cooler
The method and strengths below come from our product data for RXSOL-11-1008-020. Match the strength of the solution to the amount of scale: the heavier the deposit, the stronger the mix.
- Degrease first if needed. If the equipment has oil, grease, sludge or carbonised oil in it, clean the system first with degreaser RXSOL-10-1005.
- Mix. Mix RXSOL-11-1008-020 with fresh water at 3 to 20 percent, depending on how much scale has built up.
- Circulate large systems. Circulation works best for boilers, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers and other closed systems that can circulate. Run it at a temperature of approximately 40-60°C, for 6-12 hours, with solutions of 5-40% of RXSOL-11-1008-020 in water.
- Soak small parts. For small components, soak them in an immersion bath.
- Neutralise. After descaling, treat all metal surfaces with 0.5 percent of RXSOL-10-1005 for at least 2-4 hour, until the pH is neutral.
Do not use concentrated 1008 on aluminium surfaces. The acid gives off carbon dioxide as it reacts with carbonate scale, so leave a vent open at the high point of the circuit. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and goggles, keep an eyewash station near where you mix, and ask us for the MSDS before the job. Our descaling liquid dosage, application and safety guide covers each step in more detail.

Where condenser and cooler descaling is needed in Oman
Our product data lists many equipment types. In buildings, it covers chillers, cooling towers and pipework. In food plants, it covers condensers, ice machines and refrigeration equipment. In bottling, it covers heat exchangers, heaters and rinse tanks.
The same descaler is used on diesel engine cooling systems and evaporators. For manufacturing, our product data lists chillers, compressors, furnaces, quenchers and vacuum pumps. It also lists automotive closed circuit cooling, radiators and welders.

Frequently asked questions
How much descaling liquid do I need for a condenser?
Mix it with fresh water at 3 to 20 percent, depending on how much scale has built up. For circulation cleaning of large closed systems, the product data gives solutions of 5-40%. Send us your system volume and an estimate of the scale thickness, and we will work out the quantity for your quote.
Can I descale a cooler without taking it apart?
Yes. Circulation cleans the equipment in hours without taking any part of it apart, and some equipment can be cleaned while it is still running.
Is the descaler safe on aluminium?
Do not use concentrated 1008 on aluminium surfaces. The RXSOL-11-1008-025 grade is safe for stainless steel, glass, ceramic and most metals. Tell us your tube and fin materials before you order.
What do I do after descaling?
Treat all metal surfaces with 0.5 percent of RXSOL-10-1005 for at least 2-4 hour, until the pH is neutral. Then flush with fresh water before you put the unit back in service.
